Puerto Columbia

Following our ordeal in Carapas some serious beaching was needed to bring the shine back to the Vamanos tour and leave the cynicism behind. Cue Puerto Columbia!

Perched at the end of a peninsular which held the park national Henri Pittier, with enough birds to send a twitcher twitchy was the cute little town of Puerto Columbia. The road which led to this haven of relaxation was something like a fairground ride. A narrow cliff hugging switchback road made for a who honks the loudest stays on the road competition and ruled by pschycadelic american school buses blasting the drivers favorite salsa tunes to the locals stuffed onto every inch of broken seat (maybe jammed in to stop us sliding about!). We've got a clearer photo but the blurred one coveys the atmosphere a bit better.

A friendly local showed us around some pousadas but we ditched him unceremoniously when he insisted we stay in a building site. Never mind good old eager Martin came up with the agua caliente digs.

Spent two days on the most beautiful beach so far, Playa Grande, with clear turquoise waters, fun waves just right for body surfing, squeeky white sand and ice cold beer served without stress under our beach umbrella. As demonstrate by Stu with aplomb (though he thinks a little more practice is needed on this subject!)
Topped off a relaxing two days with a BBQ รก la Stu. Though the moral of the story is never allow a Venezeulan to clean your fish with a machete, what a mess!

Love,
the chilled out lovers.

Meal of the Week: Fresh fish with a lime and tomatoe salsa on the parilla.

Sight of the week: Little nipper running full pelt over sunbaking sleeping man, foot perfectly in the middle of his chest and winding him, continuing on with a "you didn't see me" look as the guy folded up spluttering for breath.
